The UK Polymer Colloids Forum (UKPCF) closed in 2015 and assigned its residual funds for use in awarding the new Ottewill International Travel Scholarship in honour of Professor Ronald Harry Ottewill OBE FRS (1927-2008). The award (worth up to £1000) is designed to assist, each year, one outstanding UK-based graduate researcher (whose research relates to polymer colloids) in presenting their work at an international conference outside the UK. The first award was made to Qian Sun from Cambridge University. Qian is carrying out PhD research into aqueous core, metal-coated colloidosomes under the supervision of Dr. Alex Routh and will use the award to attend and present at the 91st ACS Colloid & Surface Science Symposium in New York in July 2017.
Applications are called for the second award of the scholarship. The conditions of the award and an application form can be obtained from Craig Jones of Unilever (by email to craig.jones@unilever.com). In short, applications for the 2018 award must be received by 15 October 2017 and all applicants will be informed of the outcome by 30 November 2017. The adjudicating committee comprises Brian Vincent (Bristol University), Peter Lovell (Manchester University) and Craig Jones (Unilever).

The 14th International Conference on Polymers for Advanced Technologies (PAT 2017) will be held in Manchester (United Kingdom) on September 11-13, 2017.
PAT conferences are held on a biannual basis and are associated with the Polymers for Advanced Technologies journal (Wiley). PAT 2017 is organised by Profs Nicola Tirelli (University of Manchester) and Cameron Alexander (University of Nottingham) and will focus on three main themes:
A number of distinguished speakers have already agreed to present in the exciting programme of our conference, which will be hosted in the town cradle of the industrial revolution, a fitting location for a technology-orientated conference.
We welcome all potential presenters to submit their abstracts for consideration (either for oral or poster presentations) by the 30th June.
See you in Manchester!

EUPOC 2017 is aiming to introduce the most recent developments within the various areas of additive manufacturing for polymer parts with presentations from leading international scientists and industrial researchers working in this field. Contributions will address fundamental and experimental aspects, discuss the bottlenecks, model the physics of these processes in order to consider their simulations, present applications, material-related issues and part properties. In the field of polymer part production, several types of processes and variants are developing rapidly: stereo-lithography, laser sintering, fused filament fabrication, binder or material jetting, cold spray, … In coming years this area of research, at the intersection between fundamental science and technology, is expected to define new and innovative applications for polymers. EUPOC 2017 will offer a platform for discussing the main challenges facing this research field bringing together scientists, engineers, and students working on every aspect of additive manufacturing of polymer parts.
Major topics will include:
● Instrumentation of processes;
● New polymer materials for additive manufacturing : chemistries and formulations;
● Involved physical and chemical processes (experimental and modeling);
● Induced microstructures;
● Induced mechanical properties;
● Simulations of processes;
● New technologies and innovative developments.
Well-known scientists involved in polymers and additive manufacturing already agree to give a plenary lectures (list which will completed):
